Etty Steele is a sixth grade, vampire hunter, or at least she’s supposed to be if only her powers would actually kick in. Her dad is mortal, but her mom is an all-powerful, kick a*s vampire hunter that is relentless when it comes to Etty’s training. Every single day, Etty’s mom makes train in their basement before and after school and has even taken Etty on extended “vacations” to learn survival training.
Once summer break has ended, Etty returns to school to be reunited with her best friend April. However, once school starts, a new boy has joined their class…Vladimir Nox, aka Dimi. Dimi has super pale skin and wears sunglasses indoors. Etty is convinced his a vampire, but April refuses to listen to her pleas to stay away from Dimi.
The book was a lot of fun to read. The plot has a great pace that kept me engaged the entire time. I loved that even though Etty’s mom was incredibly hard on her, you could see how much her dad would reinforced that Etty was loved and that her parents wanted nothing but the best for her. I also really enjoyed watching the progression of Etty and April’s friendship especially once Dimi came into the picture since Etty despised him. There were also twists and turns throughout the plot, which kept me on my toes.
Overall, I think this a really great read and perfectly hits the target audience (and people like me who love middle grade especially laced with magical creatures and elements!).
