It is summertime in Beresford. Ronaldo and Rudi are beside themselves with excitement: Monty the Moose, the most incredible Magician in the whole world is performing at Rudi’s birthday party!

But before the festivities begin, there’s the important matter of The Reindeer Flyover, an ancient tradition of The Reindeer Flying Academy that marks the end of school term. But Rudi might not be able to fly. He’s injured his hoof and refuses to see Doctor Kloppen. Rudi is terrified of needles and, rumour has it, the Doctor’s needle is the size of a rocket!

Meanwhile, Ronaldo meets celebrity baker, Mrs Sorensson, and offers to deliver her cakes to ‘Carrot’s ‘N’ Cakes’ bakery before flying school. The weather is hot so Ronaldo rushes through the forest so he can deliver the cakes before the icing melts. But trouble is lurking in the woods. Dasher and his menacing brothers, Comet and Prancer, are hiding in the bushes. Waiting for Ronaldo!

Maxine has done it again with another wonderful adventure starring Ronaldo the flying reindeer. Ronaldo is back with is best friend Rudi, who has hurt his hoof and needs to visit the doctor. The problem is that Rudi is petrified of the doctor (he fears shots more than anything). Rudi’s mother enlists the help of Ronaldo to help trick her son into going to the doctor’s office where utter chaos ensues.

Ronaldo ends up picking up a part time job to help the famous Mrs. Sorrenson (world renowned cake baker), which would allow him to save money to attend the new flying class. Unfortunately, Rudi’s dad loses his job, which means Rudi won’t have the money to attend making Rudi incredibly sad. Ronaldo is on a mission to help his friend and give him the best birthday party ever!

It amazes me how well developed all of the characters are and the amount of conflict that they go through and resolve in so few pages. I love reading about Ronaldo and Rudi’s adventures, but you definitely feel like you’re a part of the gang. Also, the amount that food was discussed in this book made me so hungry! I was dying to have one of those incredible carrot cakes from Mrs. Sorrenson.

Overall, this is another feel good adventure of Ronaldo and Rudi that will be appreciated by all ages. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for the dynamic duo.
