This morning, I was packing up lunches, ironing, putting on the laundry I should have done last night. Now my precious daughter is accused of murder.

When ten-year-old cousins Maddy and Brianna are arrested for a terrible crime, Maddy’s mother Juliet cannot believe it. How could her bright, joyful daughter be capable of such a thing?

As the small village community recoils in horror, the pressure of the tragedy blows Juliet and her sister’s lives apart. And things get even worse when their daughters retreat into a self-imposed silence. Can anyone reach Maddy and discover the truth before her fate is sealed?

Juliet is crushed. Nothing will ever be the same for her darling girl. But she knows that to find out what really happened that day, she and her sister must unlock the secrets of their own terrible past, a past they swore never to speak about again …

The most unputdownable psychological thriller you’ll read this year from the bestselling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on The Silent Ones.

10 year old cousins, Maddy and Brianna, are accused of brutally assaulting their elderly neighbor, Bessie. Their mothers, Juliet and Chloe, cannot believe their daughters could possibly have committed such a crime. While we don’t know if the girls did in fact assault Bessie, we do know that the girls were in the vicinity. The problem? The girls have taken a vow of silence and refuse to cooperate with the investigation.

A family therapist, Dana, is brought onto the case with the intention to find a way to get the girls to communicate. As Dana learns more information, it becomes apparent that there are so many secrets and issues within the family that no one had ever suspected. It’s time for Juliet and Chloe to be honest about their family secrets before their daughters end up in prison.

K.L. Slater has done it again with her brilliant ability to write a page-turning, nail-biting thriller that leaves you chomping at the bit. I loved all of the twists and turns as more and more secrets were revealed within the plot. I don’t want to give any more of the plot away because this is one of those roller coaster rides that you just need to experience all the bumps for yourself. Definitely pick this one up if you love a good thriller!

  1. Great review! I was very close to requesting the book on Netgalley, but did not end up doing it because I was a little on the fence about the serious theme to the book, and that too with the two children.
