The Wine Bible by Karen McNeil

I love all things wine. I love drinking wine, tasting wine, and going to wine festivals. What I enjoy most about wine is the history lesson that comes with it. I love learning the different varietals and the regions from which they are produced.

A Book About a Fear of Yours.

Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

This book has been hands down the most impactful book that I have EVER read. One of my greatest fears is seeking too much knowledge/education at the expense of being able to relate to my loved ones. This book really made me question if this journey that I’m on is worth it.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

I’ve been an avid reader ever since I was a child because I was always sick and couldn’t play outside. Beauty and the Beast was my absolute favorite fairytale. I always wanted to be Belle because she was the epitome of intelligence, and she was gifted an entire library. A Curse So Dark and Lonely is the first Beauty and the Beast retelling that I absolutely fell in love with. Reading this reminded me of the nostalgia of Beauty and the Beast, but with a much needed feminist boost. I loved every minute of this.

A Book About Your Career/What You’re Studying in School.

Organic Chemistry by Jonathan Clayden, Nick Greeves, Stuart Warren, Peter Wothers.

I’m finishing up my Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. This is a really great reference text if you’re ever taking Organic Chemistry. The material is really accessible. There’s not a lot of practice problems though. However, this book does a great job of bridging the gap between undergraduate and the first year of graduate school (wow, I just felt like an Orgo plug-in, help!)

What job would you be terrible doing?

I’d be terrible at any job where I would have to process or prepare meat like a butcher. I am definitely a meat eater, but even preparing meat at home makes me a bit squeamish at times. I don’t know why, but raw meat just gets to me.

What’s a subject you wish you knew more about?

Math. I’m terrible at math. It’s funny because people assume that you need advanced math for organic chemistry, but that’s a lie! I use a calculator for algebra on a daily basis.

In your opinion, what is the best day on the calendar and why?

I love Christmas Eve. There’s something so magical about that day to me. I love when there’s snow on the ground, the christmas tree is lit, the fireplace is going, watching Christmas movies, and enjoying a glass of red wine. I always say that Christmas is the one time of the year when strangers are the most generous towards one another, so it’s my absolute favorite day and holiday.

What is the craziest item you spent way too much on?

The special edition Aurora Rising from Goldsboro Books. I have never spent over $20 on a book before, but I HAD to have this book. And after the whole fiasco where I frantically tried to purchase this book for two days after the internet died, I managed to score one. It was expensive, but it was so worth it (I’ve also already read an eARC)!

What’s a quirky thing you do?

So Cait mentioned that when she concentrates, she sticks her tongue out. Oddly enough, whenever I am cutting something with scissors, I do the SAME thing!
